A 2024 study estimated that approximately 1,060 equine rescue organizations once operated across the United States, taking in at-risk horses. Together, these rescues and sanctuaries could house only 6,000–10,000 horses at a time—a fraction of the need, given that more than 200,000 equines were considered at-risk each year.
We set out to tell the story of one of them.
Working alongside cinematographer Kevin Beck and producer Jaime Tafoya, I helped create Saved By Grace—a short film about The Grace Foundation in El Dorado Hills, California. Shot on RED ONE Mysterium-X and edited at Silverado Studios, Saved By Grace captured daily life on a rescue ranch surrounded by horses, animals, veterinarians, and volunteers.
Beyond the rescue work itself, The Grace Foundation also provided therapy opportunities for special needs children, allowing them to connect with horses and care for the animals—a powerful reflection of how compassion and healing often went hand in hand.
While the days of The Grace Foundation ultimately came to a close, the work of saving horses continues every day. If you’d like to check out the opener for Saved By Grace, click the link below. And if you want to see one of the hilarious things that happens on a farm, just click on Buster's Cameo.
