Recreating
The Rocky Run

How do you even get an assignment like this? Here’s how it all started...

Boss: “Dave is going to be our emcee for next year’s sales conference, and he’s going to lose a bunch of weight to inspire the rest of the employees. I want you to document his journey along the way.”
Me: “Sounds great. What do you want to shoot first?”
Boss: “After the trade show in New York, I want you two to divert to South Philly and film him doing the Rocky run—every scene at every location. It should be location-specific, so you’ll have to do some research.”
Me: *Chokes on coffee*
Me: “That sounds like a wild shoot. You know it might take two or three days to do it right? Lots of locations to hit, and we’ll have to plot out the best routes with traffic and…”
Boss: “There’s a big storm coming in after the show—so you probably have a day, max. Let me know how it goes…”

Project Notes

9

Miles traveled across South Philadelphia to hit five separate locations in one day.

14+

Inches of snow that hit the Philadelphia Metro area the following day.

4

South Philly residents (three kids cutting class and a very nice homeless guy) who told us we were "doing it wrong" and were happy to lead us to the right locations. The homeless guy requested a "tip" of $20. The kids just wanted to be in the movie.
